Sir J C Bose Anniversary celebration & Students Science Congress 2019 - Grand Finale

Science India Forum-Qatar celebrated birth anniversary of Great Indian Scientist, Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose and grand finale of Students Science Congress 2019 on Saturday 30th Nov 2019 at Indian Cultural Center. Dr. P. K. Joshi, President of International Junior Science Olympiad and Faculty of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR- Mumbai presided over the function and interacted with students. Mr. Avinash Deshpande, Executive Leadership & Strategy Coach and NLP TRAINER discussed about contribution of Sir J C Bose and Mr Mahesh Naik amateur astronomer and Past President- Khagol Mandal Mumbai educated the students with interesting facts on, how astronomy lead to the invention of common equipments that are used in day to day life. He also conducted an online quiz where students and parents participated with enthusiasm. Winners who were quick enough to answer, bagged the book on “Introduction to Astronomy” as their prize. On this occasion over 150 students, parents, teachers participated. Students Science Congress is a flagship program of SIFQ. It is a unique hands-on science activity for Indian Students in Qatar, where the students get an opportunity for applying their knowledge of science to address the real-life impediments to community development. This is based on the guidelines of National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) held in India annually by the National Council of Science and Technology Communication, Dept. of Science and Technology, New Delhi. Total 169 teams from Junior & Senior categories were participated from various Indian schools in Qatar. They have conducted innovative science projects based on the theme, “Science, Technology & Innovation for a Clean, Green and Healthy Nation” under the guidance of a guide teacher. All these teams were evaluated by the team of judges, professionals through 3 review rounds. Pre-final round was conducted on 22nd Nov 2019 and 25 qualified projects were evaluated by scientist Dr. Hemant Pande during Finale. All finalist teams exhibited their science projects during Grand Finale and evaluated by Dr. P. K. Joshi. Grand Finale Result was announced with winners as:- Junior – Category Rank -1, Overall Rank- 1 Project Title- Poultice-Elakkizhi-Patra Pinda Swetha Sub Theme- Traditional Knowledge Team Leader- Bhagath Krishnan Team Member- Aamna Asif Guide Teacher- Bisni Praveen School- Birla Public School Junior – Category Rank -2, Overall Rank- 2 Project Title- Recycling paper to make Herbal paper-insect repellent paper and the remains mixed with tea grounds to cultivate edible mushroom Sub Theme- Waste to Wealth Team Leader- Aniesh Saravanan Team Member- Archana Soman Guide Teacher- Meena Uppalapati S.P. School- Rajagiri Public School Senior – Category Rank -1, Overall Rank- 3 (Tie) Project Title- The Voltnet Sub Theme- Ecosystem and Ecosystem Services Team Leader- Rudhra Amit Panchal Team Member- Ansh Pankajbhai Koladia Guide Teacher- Fawaz Shafi Mohammed. School- Al Khor International School Senior – Category Rank -1, Overall Rank- 3 (Tie) Project Title- Replacement of plastic in our daily life Sub Theme- Waste to Wealth Team Leader- Neil Aldrin Team Member- Sara Khalid Guide Teacher- Mohammed Ilias. School- Noble International School Top two projects from Qatar nominated for National Children Science Congress 2019 to be held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala - India from 27th to 31st Dec 2019.
